Background
In
1997 when Hong Kong Schools Zone organized
the first Summer Project, it gathered together a group of
parents and educators, who were eager to try out new education
technology developed in USA, UK and Europe for their children.
These parents, working jointly with some primary and secondary
school teachers in Hong Kong, run hundreds of experimental
classes and seminars for the Summer Project programs in the
last few years.
During
this period the Hong Kong Government realized that IT has
emerged as a key element in the future economic development
of Hong Kong, so they decided to introduce IT into the schools.
The experimental programs in Summer Project become very valuable
experience to many schools in Hong Kong.
At
the same time the advertising and the marketing industries
in Hong Kong are also looking for skilled IT staff to build
web sites for their clients or their own companies. Many undergraduates
who take up part-time jobs in Summer Project for Hong Kong
Schools Zone also want to learn IT from the volunteer trainers,
since many of them are highly skilled IT staff from the States.
By
the end of 1999 many volunteer trainers realized that there
is a need to set up a commercial training company to develop
course materials for both the educational and the commercial
markets. Therefore, they set up BeyondCert.com.
Mission
The
mission of Beyond Cert.com is to produce high quality course
materials with the assistance of modern information technology
and to develop trainers to deliver these course materials
to the mass.
Current
Programs
BeyondCert.com
is currently working with Macromedia
Inc. and HKEdCity
of the Department of Education to deliver web design and programming
skills to school teachers and information technology to the
advertising and marketing industries. The following courses
